Cheng,
was personally blessed by the article especially the part on trials and testing on how we should stand firm in Christ, trusting Him as Job did!
"Jesus Christ Superstar" was a cult favourite movie in the 80's among the critics , that mocked the existence of Christ and Him actually resurrected. It also showed Him being very human and susceptible to sin...personally have not caught the show but i thank GOD that Jesus did what He did by dying on the cross for us so that we could be saved!
shall try to find the VCD somewhere...
HE DID NOT FLINCH AT THE CRITICAL MOMENT
Martin Scorsese's film "The Last Temptation of Christ" stirred international controversy when it suggested what might have happened if Jesus had decided to forego the crucifixion and keep to His carpentry shop. The point it raised was a valid one, and one that I think we need to ponder. What would have occurred if Jesus had "flinched at the critical moment"? Being human, he could have easily done so. He could have at any moment recanted his words, both greatly relieving the political system so reluctant to crucify him and foiling the religious powers so adamant on doing so. "I take it back -- you were all right. I am just a man from Nazareth caught up in frenzy popularity. I think I'll just gather up my mother and friends and we can all go home." He could have quit, stopped the fight, but his heart was resolved after due reflection. He did not flinch at the critical moment.
There comes a time in each of our lives when we can "flinch at the critical moment," a point at which our very values are called into question. Not long ago I received a call from a businesswoman who was extremely discouraged. It seemed that Bill, a man she had literally raised up in the business and trusted intensely, had left to start his own competing firm, and was now badmouthing her to her clients. In the upcoming weeks she had an opportunity either to go forward with her plans to expand the company or to call it quits. She was so disheartened by Bill's betrayal that she wasn't sure she even wanted to be in the business anymore. I reminded her that even Jesus had a Judas, and that indeed Judas had somehow been part of God's plan. If she quit the business, Bill and his low-ethics mentality would indeed triumph.
She had reached a critical moment. Was she going to flinch, or stand firm on her principles and her mission? We prayed together, and she resolved to indeed move forward, trusting God to honor her intentions to do good.
Despite all the insults and wounds to her heart, this woman decided not to flinch at the critical moment. She later received a two-million-dollar contract, beating out all competitors, including Bill.
"With constant heart and confidence in Yahweh, she need never fear bad news. Steadfast in heart, she overcomes her fears. In the end she will triumph over her enemies" (Psalm 112:7-8)
** In the Book of Revelation, he who obey the commandment of God will eventually given the authority. (Revelation 2:26, To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations). It is always in trial that one's soul be tested, and shall reveal that will it crushed/broken?
**According to some bible college scholar, Book of Job is recognised as the oldest scroll in Bible, it was written even far before Genesis. The theme of the whole book is to tell us: "Do not flinch at the critical moment."
[In the book of Job,] the devil told God, "Certainly, Job praises you every day. But look a this life! He has everything!" So God allows innumerable trials to befall Job, who finally utters, "Even though he slay me, yet will I praise him." When tested, Job held firm to his faith and belief in God's ultimate love, despite the circumstances. The critical times were when Job's faith came in, not when it went out.
"My friend, if you aspire to serve the Lord, prepares yourself for an ordeal. Be sincere of heart, be steadfast, and do not be alarmed when disaster comes. Cling to him and do not leave him, so that you may be honored at the end of your days. Whatever happens to you, accept it, and in the uncertainties of your humble state, be patient, since gold is tested in the fire and chosen people in the furnace" (Ecclesiastics 2:1-5).
In every situation Jesus proved he could carry the load.
He did not flinch at the critical moment.
It seem like article like this always resonance within me.. indeed.. I think if we zoom in to every detail of our live, it is not just the major decision that we must not flinch, those little little minor thing should we also be careful. WWJD indeed a heavy question to ask and to answer carefully...
everytime i fell, i cried for more grace; and shall more grace came, i thank God, yet see little transformation in me; soon, i cried out for more grace.. what a viscious cycle.. i remember Paul did said that he did not let God's given grace be in vain (meaning everytime he receive grace, he make sure he learn from the lesson, and not letting himself fall into same pits again).
sorry. guys. some correction here.
2 Corinthians 6:1-2:
As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. For he says,"In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation.
So, it is actually Paul urge us.
So, as I was urged by the message give by Paul, I hope it urges you too. :)
God bless.
Note: Rachel, if you found tat controvesy movie, please let me know oh, me very interested to watch controvesy movie. :)
daily i asked for His grace.(would elaborate if i hve time to blog):P
in similarity to this, ( i think)in crisis, our values will stand out. Yet the "harder" qtn is:what about in our "normacy" times? ( in normal times)do we hold on to what we value?
:)
juz my thought.
btw, tks for the translation.
was about to ask if there's translation or mayb, make the font size bigger =)
